QUITE apart from the race to Christmas we are in the closing weeks of the Victorian State Election. It was great to hear from the candidates about their commitment and hopes for the Ripon electorate at Tuesday evenings forum.

We’ve seen wide ranging commitments from all parties including changes to V/Line fares, funding for roads and renewables and strategies to relieve the current pressure of the cost of living.

Whatever the outcome on election day GABN remains committed to advocating for the businesses and community of Ararat and ensure that our region remains front and centre at a state level.

For those who can’t wait to exercise their democratic right, or will be out of the region on Saturday, November 26th, early voting is open from now until 6pm on Friday, November 26 at Gum San Heritage Centre.

In local government news we also extend our congratulations to Mayor Cr Jo Armstrong and Deputy Mayor Cr Bob Sanders, who were reelected to their respective roles at last week’s Council Meeting for a further 12 months. The GABN Committee looks forward to working with you both in the coming year.

The other significant local event on the horizon is the East Grampians Business Awards Gala on Wednesday, November 23. Category nominations and voting for the People’s Choice have now closed, but there is still time to make sure you are there to join the celebrations when the winners are announced. The awards recognise organisations that demonstrate an innovative approach and excellence in business. The awards have become a regional benchmark that quality businesses aspire to. Ararat Rural City Council have secured Gilbert Rochescouste, Founder and Creative Director from Village Well as the Guest Speaker for the evening. Village Well works with local and state governments, regional centres and private developers to facilitate the creation of great places that people love. Tickets are $78 per person and can be booked by contacting Ararat Rural City Council.
